Happy Friday Everyone

What wacky rainy week we all had. We focused a lot of the week on the Daily 5 and Journeys. We had our first quiz. Don’t worry parents  your children all did fine. In Social Studies we are creating maps of our communities. In Science we are learning about the different uses of models. Have a great weekend.

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Grade Three! I hope you all had a terrific summer.
My name is Mr. Jacques, and I will be your new teacher. I am new
to Dominican International School.
My wife and I have been married for 17 years and we have a daughter
who will also be joining the
DISK family this year in Grade 1. I have 7 years of teaching experience in Taiwan.
I believe in a collaborative teaching philosophy that is student-centered.
I will provide your child with a fun and safe environment to learn and grow in.

I’m excited to start this magical journey with you.
I am sure we’ll have a happy and productive school year that holds the promise of
new discovery and learning, as well as the prospect of personal growth in all areas.
We will have lots of fun reading, writing, and growing together.

The web address for our class blog is
I will use the blog for posting photographs of class activities and use it as a
way of keeping you informed and up-to-date with the activities of school life.

We’ll be transitioning to Google Classroom for all homework and assignments.

Please use my email as our means of communication:

Students are asked to bring the following supplies to school:

  • Pencil case (pencils - please note: non-mechanical pencils preferred, erasers, ruler)
  • 7 notebooks
  • 5 pocket folder
  • I small student whiteboard and markers
  • Tissue paper for classroom use (2 small packs)
  • Towel/handkerchief
  • Water bottle
  • Healthy snacks and water (no junk food, chocolate bars, or soft drinks)
  • Headphones with microphone (for Computer class)

The last page of the student handbook
must be signed by both parents and student and returned to school as soon as possible.
Some key things to remember are:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (plus Mass Celebration days) students are to come to school in
formal uniforms. DISK will be enforcing a much stricter dress code this year and
as such students are
expected to arrive at school in clean and tidy uniforms that are worn properly throughout the day.
Wednesdays students may come to school in their P.E. uniforms and on Fridays
they may wear their Sports Day shirts with P.E. bottoms. If Mass or another
special celebration day is on Wednesday or Friday student should come to
school in their formal uniforms. They will be allowed to change into their
sport uniform after the celebration is complete.
Grade Three students will have P.E. class on Wednesday and Friday each week.
Students will need to come to school wearing their P.E. uniforms and have an extra
P.E. shirt to change into after class. It is also beneficial for students to bring
a small towel to dry off after exercising.
On the second Friday of each month, students may wear personal
clothing as long as it is in good taste and does not show any inappropriate images.
Students who are deemed as dressing inappropriately will be given a P.E. uniform
to change into and sent home with a corresponding bill.
Students must be inside their classrooms and
ready for the first class to begin at 8:00 am sharp.
Students will be dismissed at 3:30 pm every day.

Thank you in advance for trusting me with your most precious possession.

I promise to treat your child the way I want my child to be treated. I’m not perfect, but
I will do my best to make this an amazing year.

Once again, welcome to Grade 3. I look forward to having a great year with everyone.
